دکتر فیلیپ این سخنان را بعد از انتشار تحقیق جنجال برانگیز ویروس آنفلوانزی مرغی H5N1 در مجله نیچر، به بی بی سی نیوز گفت.

به تازگی دو مقاله پژوهشی سبب ایجاد نگرانی هایی در میان موسسه های ضد تروریستی شده است.

یکی از این مقالات به مجله نیچر، و دیگری به دیگر مجله معتبر ساینس (Science) ارائه شده است. مقاله مجله ساینس هنوز منتشر نشده است.

هر دو پژوهش نشان می دهند که ویروس H5N1 نسبتا به سادگی می تواند به شکلی تغییر و جهش پیدا کند که به سرعت در میان جامعه انسانی شیوع یابد.

در پی انجام این پژوهش ها، هیئت مشاور امنیت ملی آمریکا در زمینه بیوتکنولوژی (ان اس ای بی بی) در ماه نوامبر گذشته درخواست کرد که سردبیران، قسمت های حساسی از این دو پژوهش را حذف کنند. گفته می شود که این قسمت ها حاوی اطلاعاتی است که تروریست ها می توانند در ساخت سلاح‌های بیولوژیکی از آنها استفاده کنند.

متخصصان امنیت در حوزه تحقیقات بیولوژیک نگرانند که یک نوع تغییر یافته و مسری تر از ویروس آنفلوآنزای مرغی ممکن است باعث همه گیری مرگباری شود که تلفات آن حتی از شیوع آنفلوآنزای اسپانیایی در اوایل قرن بیستم هم بیشتر باشد.

در فاصله سالهای ۱۹۱۸ تا ۱۹۱۹ که ویروس مرگبار موسوم به آنفلوآنزای اسپانیایی در جهان شایع شد، حدود ۴۰ میلیون نفر جان خود را از دست دادند.

منافع و خطرات

بسیاری از افراد در جامعه علمی، از جمله محققان این پژوهش ها بر این باور بودند که منافع انتشار این تحقیق ها به صورت کامل، از خطرات ناشی از آن بیشتر است.

به گفته آنها، هدف از انتشار این پژوهش ها، کمک به کسانی است که در حال تلاش برای ساخت واکسن هایی برای این ویروس و پیشگیری از شیوع بیماری‌های ناشی از آن هستند. همچنین بسیاری از صاحبنظران، این را ناقض آزادی آکادمیک می دانستند.

از سوی دیگر، هیئت مشاور امنیت ملی آمریکا در زمینه بیوتکنولوژی تاکید داشته که باید راهی یافته شود که قسمت های حذف شده صرفا به دست پژوهشگران قانونی برسد.

با این حال، نتیجه میانجیگری سازمان بهداشت جهانی در اوایل امسال این بود که، دست کم در مقیاس زمانی مناسب، هیچ راه عملی ای برای این منظور وجود ندارد؛ و به این ترتیب، هر دو مجله تصمیم به انتشار پژوهش های ارائه شده گرفتند.

در این رابطه پلیس افزود :شبكه دوم مسئول جعل اسناد برای انجام ازدواج های موقت بین این زنان و افراد غیر اروپایی مخصوصا نیجریه ای ها بودند و بدین ترتیب این مردان با ازدواج تقلبی دارای اسناد اروپایی و اجازه ورود و اقامت در اروپا را می‌ گرفتند .

پلیس اشاره نمود كه این دو شبكه در استان های مالاگا ، گرانادا ، مورسیا و والنسیا واقع در جنوب اسپانیا فعال بودند و شاخه هایی‌ نیز در آلمان و پرتغال داشتند .

پلیس تشریح كرد كه تحقیقات هنگامی آغاز شدند كه در اوایل سال گذشته میلادی از حضور دو باند كه یكی‌ از آنها متشكل از شهروندان رومانیایی و شبكه دوم كه متشكل از رومانیایی ها و نیجریه ای ها بودند ، مطلع شدند و پس از تحقیق پی بردند كه رابطه این دو باند ، زنان قربانی رومانیایی بودند كه از یك سو وادار به خود فروشی و از سوی دیگر وادار به ازدواج موقت با مردان نیجریه ای می‌ شدند .
